El Programa de Alfabetización de jóvenes, Abejas está en marcha en HdV! Sábado, 14 de junio fue la gran apertura para el programa, y que gran apertura que era. Casi 50 niños del área registraron temprano y se presentaron el sábado con sus padres, vecinos, y amigos para disfrutar de una mañana de lectura muy divertida. Como un incentivo especial a todos los niños que se inscribieron temprano se les dio una mochila cargada de materiales para la escuela y materiales de lectura. Sin embargo, TODOS los niños que participaron en el evento disfrutaron de un mini desayuno saludable, una hora de cuento en grupo, una divertida actividad que ligado a las historias que se leyeron, y por supuesto libros gratis para continuar la emoción de leer en casa. "Este es un momento tan emocionante para HDV!" Decía Marcy, la directora del programa Abejas "El jardín ya no sólo está ayudando a los niños del área a comer sano y mantener un estilo de vida activo, pero ahora los estamos ayudando de una manera totalmente diferente- con la educación y la alfabetización. Simplemente refuerza mi creencia en el jardín y los beneficios de tener el jardín en la comunidad." Con la ayuda de 9 maravillosos jóvenes que se han presentado como líderes de la juventud el Programa de Abejas se reúne dos veces por semana, los miércoles y los sábados de 9 -. 11 a.m. Las Abejitas-nuestros lectores más jóvenes (de 4- 7 años) se reúnen 9-10 a.m. y las Honeybees- nuestros lectores de edades Tween (de 8- 13 años) se reúnen de 10- 11 a.m. Si desea que su hijo o hijos participen en la diversión, el registro es abierto todo el año- sólo tiene que rellenar una hoja de registro y la hoja de renuncia para e su hijo en el jardín.
The Abejas Youth Literacy Program is up and running at HdV! Saturday, June 14th was the grand opening for the program- and what a grand opening it was. Almost 50 children from the area registered early and showed up on Saturday with parents, neighbors, and friends to enjoy a morning of reading fun. As a special incentive all children who registered early were given a book bag loaded with school and reading materials. However, ALL children who participated in the event enjoyed a mini healthy breakfast, group story times, a fun craft/ art activity that tied into the stories read, and of course free books to continue the reading excitement at home. “This is such an exciting time for HdV!” gushed Marcy, the Abejas program director “Not only is the garden helping kids eat healthy and maintain an active lifestyle but now we are helping them on a totally different level- through education and literacy. It just strengthens my belief in the garden and the benefits of having it in the community.” With the help of 9 amazing youth leaders from the community the Abejas Youth Literacy Program is currently meeting twice a week, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9- 11 a.m. The Abejitas- our younger readers meet from 9-10 a.m. and the Honeybees- our tween/ teen readers meet from 10- 11 a.m. If you would like your child or children to participate in the fun, registration is open year round- just fill out a quick registration sheet and waiver for your child at the garden.
